Coleen & Wayne Talk Xmas, and Wedding

Coleen and Wayne in Hello MagazineWayne Rooney’s wedding to Coleen McLoughlin promises to be a rather more illustrious affair.

The couple has spoken for the first time about their forthcoming nuptials - and their ongoing quest to find the perfect venue.

Indeed, so determined is 21-year-old Miss McLoughlin to make the big day memorable, she has scoured much of Europe to find a suitable venue ahead of their church ceremony next June.

Accompanied by her mother, Colette, she has searched throughout France, Italy, England with a trip to Ireland planned over the coming weeks - at a combined estimated cost of over £20,000.

“We always knew we wanted to get married this summer but it was just a question of when,” Miss McLoughlin told Hello! magazine.

“With Wayne’s football commitments it was hard for us to find a window to do it, but now we have a better idea we can start planning it.

“As soon as we knew the month I started looking for locations and when we make our decision on that then we can put a precise date in the diary.

“It’s simple really; I have always wanted to have a summer wedding and Wayne’s time off is really limited. June fits in with that.”

With Rooney, 22, on club duty with Manchester United, it has been left to his fiancée of four years to do the leg work.

Last month the aspiring TV presenter was pictured in the Italian Riviera, looking around the 15th century Castello Brown and Portofino on the Villa Durazzo in Portofino, where Rod Stewart and Penny Lancaster married earlier this year.

“I’ve seen so many places I just can’t make up my mind,” she added.

“It’s all quite confusing but what I do know is that wherever we marry – here or abroad – it’s going to be very much a family affair. Wayne and I decided long ago that’s what we wanted.

“Because Wayne doesn’t get much time off it’s been left to me to find a place. I’ve been round England, France, Italy, and I’ve got a few more places to see – one in Ireland and one in England – before I make my decision, and once I’ve done that we can set a date.”

While the couple, with a combined fortune of £20million, are expected to spend a small fortune on their nuptials, they are shunning the star-studded weddings of other high profile footballers.

Instead the England star’s cousin, Claire, will act as maid of honour, and Miss McLoughlin’s uncle, Sean, has been given the responsibility of Best Man.

“It’s not going to be a big celebrity affair, because we just aren’t like that,” said Rooney. “It’s all about our family and our old friends.

“Of course, there will be some players from England and Man U. They may be famous but they’re my mates first and foremost.

“I wouldn’t invite people for the sake of it.

“We’ve chosen our bridesmaids but we aren’t going to have any pages as we don’t really have any young lads in our families – they are all a bit older and I think it looks a bit stupid to have grown lads all dressed up. So you see it’s a real family affair.

“Coleen’s very much in charge. She keeps me up to date on everything but it’s very much her decision and I trust her completely to make the right one.

“I know my place! My job is to just show up for what is going to the best day of my life!”

The reported £1.5million they are being paid by the weekly glossy magazine for exclusive wedding coverage, is understood to all be going to a children’s charity and hospice.

Although England’s failure to qualify for Euro 2008 came as a bitter blow for the striker, it does mean that the couple have been able to plan a no-expense spared honeymoon.
